  • Overview

    To provide technical leadership and project management of Engineering projects where the content is medical device manufacturing platforms, products, processes and cost improvements.

     

    Technology responsibilities include the design, development and implementation of integrated, automated manufacturing systems and related control software. These projects will focus on contact lens automated processing equipment.

     

    Project Management responsibilities include leading multi-disciplined, cross-functional teams to deliver stated project objectives within cost, time, and quality constraints; nd to manage resources and budgets and to provide reports to various levels of management.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop technical direction for engineering initiatives
    • Define roles and responsibilities for project team members
    • Manage project schedules and budgets
    • Manage external vendors and service providers

     

    This will include the following activities:

    • Develop automation requirements and implement solutions for product line and/or capacity including the development of URS documentation for equipment and machine controls software systems.
    • Participate in design and development of new automation technology.
    • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure successful development and integration activities up to validation to established acceptance criteria.
    • Develop and implement new technologies, data acquisition and performance measurement tools / techniques to gather and analyze critical data necessary to drive Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and reliability improvements.
    • Provide Manufacturing training support, comprehensive systems documentation packages and preventative maintenance procedures for systems applications.
    • Develop project schedules and budget proposals for large scale projects.
    • Structure teams, define roles, responsibilities and deliverables.
    • Identify risks to project deliverables and implement mitigating actions.
    • Track project progress and communicate this to a variety of stakeholders.
    • Proactively manage project scope to customer expectations; manage and approve scope changes.
    • Manage project performance metrics and all communications with key project stakeholders.
    • Identify, manage and mitigate project risk. Track and resolve project issues with internal and external customers and vendors.
    • Ensure project teams follow standard processes and procedures.
    • Demonstrate leadership skills to motivate and lead cross-functional project teams.
    • Ensure regulatory, quality, safety & ethical standards are followed at all times.

    Scope of Position:

    • Leads project teams with 3 to 10 engineers
    • Manages timescales from three months to two years.
    • Manages budgets for $100k to $25M.

    Key Relationships:

    Has to liaise and coordinate activities across a broad range of functions e.g. R&D, Operations, Procurement, Finance and a wide variety of external vendors and service providers.

    Qualifications

    Education: BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Systems Engineering, or other similar technology degree required. Advance technology preferred.

     

    Desired Specialized Training: PMI certification to PMP level, ISO-9000, NFPA-79, GAMP 4/5, 21 CFR Part 11, Building Management Systems, Training in Six Sigma techniques to Black Belt desirable.

     

    Required Experience: Minimum 8 years or equivalent relevant work experience with development, integration and project management of automated systems including PLCs, Distributed Control Systems, motion control, robotics, HMIs, SCADA and MES systems software. Project Management experience in the development and deployment of capital assets and systems.

     

    Desired Skills and Experience: Experience with equipment build, controls and process automation and machine vision systems development. Experience working in a cGMP / FDA regulated environment desirable or clean room environment.
